Effective Engagement, Capturing Value, and Evidencing Impact in Research
Call for Participation | 11th – 13th July 2017 | Lancaster University

This is a call for applications to participate in the second Leapfrog 3 day Summer School in July. This year’s school is looking at effective, impactful engagement as part of the research process.

Leapfrog (www.Leapfrog.tools) is a 3-year research project led by Imagination Lancaster at Lancaster University, in partnership with The Institute of Design Innovation at The Glasgow School of Art (GSA). Working closely with public sector and community partners Leapfrog explores how we can co-design more effective, inclusive and creative tools that enable more active dialogue between citizens and the public sector. This involves working with diverse groups, from isolated communities in the highlands and islands of Scotland, to young people, to public health professionals. The project is funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council Connected Communities programme.

Summer School
The Leapfrog Team invite Early Career Researchers involved in community engagement to participate in a Summer School from the 11th – 13th of July 2017 at Lancaster University.

This program of activities will offer an inspirational and supportive space to exchange insights on broader aspects of research and career development, including approaches to generating research questions, writing research bids, and engagement with diverse public audiences both for research and sharing ideas.

Areas for discussion will include, but are not restricted to:
•       Participation and co-production with communities
•       Methods and tools for community engagement
•       Engaging with diverse and minority communities
•       Approaches for capturing the value of effective community engagement
•       The challenges of evidencing impact of effective community engagement

Bursaries and Eligibility
A number of bursaries are available to contribute to UK and EU delegates’ registration fees, travel, and accommodation expenses. The focus of the Summer School is on early career researchers (ECRs) (http://www.ahrc.ac.uk/skills/earlycareerresearchers/). We welcome applications from individual ECRs from across the Arts and Humanities, and PhD students in their final year of study.  There may be some flexibility on the eligibility criteria on a case-by-case basis. We are looking to be flexible and inclusive while focusing specifically on research.

Application process
Further information about the application process and fees will be posted on the Leapfrog website (http://leapfrog.tools/project/leapfrog-summer-school-2017/) by Monday 13th February. The application deadline will be Monday 6th March at 12 noon.

The Summer School will take place at Imagination Lancaster at Lancaster University.
