On Shared Ground: Video

Resource authors: Paul Evans and Jon Harrison
Project: On Shared Ground: Networks and Encounters around the Margins of Community Heritage

A short film made in collaboration with communities in Sheffield, Cardiff and Aberdeen by artist Paul Evans and filmmaker Jon Harrison. The film features three different hill forts, Bennachie, Caerau, and Wincobank that have varied histories of human visitation and habitation. They have been used for dwellings, for defence, and have served sacred or communal functions. Although archaeologists and historians are revealing more about the history of these places, community stories and memories offer new perspectives on their meaning and significance. The film brings together footage collected by community participants using Go-Pro cameras, oral history recordings and spoken word performances to explore what hill forts at each location mean to those that use them.
